I hate New Year’s Resolutions but…..

Listen, the struggle is real. Between family obligations, work parties with strangers, kids home from school and readily available booze and snacks…. the holidays can be more of a wrecking ball than anything else. So, real talk. It is time to get it together. New Year’s resolutions don’t need to fade at the end of a half-hearted Dry-January effort, they can actually last all year if you focus on things you will ENJOY.

Rather than thinking about food and drinks, this January tackle something that contributes to your overall wellness and, yes, happiness. Stress and lack of sleep are two major factors in weight gain and inability to lose weight and lack of sleep leads to stress, which increases cortisol, the hormone that loves to park a muffin top on top of your pants. Let’s focus on those rather than just what you need to give up!

This month take notes on the number of hours you're sleeping and the quality of sleep you’re getting. Not sure how? Try a simple tracker such as a fitbit, your Apple watch or our favorite fitness tracker, the WHOOP. The first step in meeting goals is understanding what your baseline is going in. We all know how to torture ourselves with a scale. This year, start off a little gentler with yourself, and consider adding sleep to your life rather than starving yourself back into your clothes. I promise it will make a difference. And while you're at it, book a massage!
