How can I lose weight when I’m under so much stress?

With COVID, its ripple effect on finances, marriages, kids, and health, not to mention the recent Snowpocalypse, we’ve all had ENOUGH. Time, money, self care and sanity are stretched thin and I’m not convinced anyone has escaped the negative effects of this in at least one area of their lives. Stress is a result of many factors, most of which is the overwhelming concern that things are not in your control. When this happens, indulging in food or alcohol is a fast, inexpensive, easy route to indulgence and joy.

First of all, be gentle with yourself. Now is a time to get focused and set short term goals with longer term intentions. Second, set yourself up for success by making a list of things you can control that contribute to your daily health. Make a commitment to those goals and make sure they are attainable each day. I advise very basic goals that make you feel good, on a list you check every day. I know this is simplistic but when your life feels out of control you need to remind yourself what you CAN do. My list focuses on keeping a routine and looks like this: brush teeth twice a day, do some form of exercise 4 days a week without distraction, drink an ounce of water for every pound of bodyweight, go to bed and wake up at the same time at least 5 days a week, do not eat less than 3 hours before bed during the week. The rules are simple, the achievement is an attainable challenge. Do what you can, when you can, with what you have. I’m cheering for you!!
